Role Summary

To start in September 2024, we are seeking self motivated and hard working individuals to join Darchem Engineering’s 4 year apprenticeship programme. The successful applicants will join a market leader in the design and manufacture of a wide range of engineered products.

The 1st year of the apprenticeship programme will be spent full-time at Hartlepool College completing extensive job related training. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th year will involve day release at Hartlepool College in order to complete a level 3 qualification in Metal Fabrication, you may also have the opportunity to progress on to a HNC qualification.

 

Throughout the Apprenticeship you will complete extensive on and off the job training as well as having the opportunity to partake in further training and skills development.

About the role

As an Apprentice Sheet Metal Worker/Welder you will display the ability to work on own initiative and the ability to learn new skills. Your duties will include all areas of the fabrication and manufacture of the various parts for use in the Aerospace, Nuclear, Thermal Insulation or Automotive industries, including:

  • Using and interpreting engineering drawing      

  • Complying with statutory regulations

  •  Working efficiently and effectively                    

  • Marking out

  • Cutting sheet metal                                          

  • Forming sheet metal

  • Producing sheet metal assemblies                    

  • Developing and marking out templates

  • Resistance spot welding                                   

  • TIG Welding

Your progress through the apprenticeship will be monitored and support given to further develop your skills. Once the apprenticeship is successfully complete you will be a fully qualified craftsperson with skills in sheet metal work and welding.

Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4+) essential

  • GCSE or equivalent Mathematics (Grade 4+) essential

  • GCSE or equivalent Science (Grade 4+) essential
